Preparing for Texaco

Cross the Line- Superchick:
Follow the leader, stay in the lines
What will people think of what you've done this time?
Go with the crowd, surely somebody knows
Why we're all wearing the emperor's clothes
Play it safe, play by the rules
Or don't play at all - what if you lose?
That's not the secret, but I know what is:
Everybody dies but not everyone lives
I'm gonna ride like I've got the cops on my tail
I'm gonna live my life like I'm out on bail
I'm gonna be out front, gonna blaze a trail
I'm gonna cross that line
Everybody freeze - don't step over the line
Don't stand up, they'll shoot down the first one who tries
Try to change the world, they'll think you're out of your mind
Revolutions start when someone crosses the line
They want us to lie down, give into the lie
Nothing has to change, and no one has to die
That's not the secret, but I know what is:
Everybody dies, but not everyone lives
I want this song to be my life. I don't want to play it safe. I don't want to be comfortable but never step out of my comfort zone. God wants us to step out, to be different, to proclaim His name without any barriers. That's what I hope to do this year- cross the line that I have been afraid of crossing for most of my life. I will be in a different world...a different place with different people and different responsibilities than I've ever experienced. God is the only way I will be able to adequately deal with all these changes, but I will trust Him to carry me through.
I am starting a blog for a couple reasons. First, to keep family and friends updated on what I will be doing in Texas. This will keep myself accountable and connected to those of you who support me. Second, to let people know how they can best support me through prayer and also financially as well.
For those of you who are reading this and don't know, I will be going to Donna, Texas as a volunteer missionary. I will be teaching PE at Macedonian Christian Academy which is a small Christian school. I have been there four times before but only during the summer. Adjusting to life during the school year will be quite different and I'm sure I will have many challenges along the way. I have to raise my own support and am shooting for about $8,000 a year or $700 a month. These are big numbers but even just a one time gift of $25 to $50 would help immensely. If you are interested in supporting me on this journey, please refer to the information at the bottom of this post for how to give.
I also ask for prayers as I start this new chapter in my life. Pray for safety during traveling and also while I'm down there. Pray for a quick adjustment to the culture and the school year. Pray that God would help me to build relationships with the students and others and that they would see Christ living in me. I thank you so much for the prayers.
I also plan on sending a monthly newsletter along with this blog, just to have something a little more formal and keep everyone updated. If you would like to receive a newsletter please email me so I can add you to the list.
I will be leaving on August 4th and plan to stay there for 2 years, coming home during Christmas and summer breaks. I am so thankful that God has given me this opportunity and am also thankful for all of you that are supporting me during this time. Please contact me if you have any questions or just want to talk!

Thank you so much and I hope you continue to read my blog. It won't always be this formal and business-like now that I've gotten the important information out of the way. Until next time.
